“No wonder our expectations are so low. Progress in fuel efficiency has been glacial compared to improvements in computers and cell phones.”
Al-Maliki said he had talked to Bush about the need for an immediate cease-fire and international support to help Lebanon rebuild.
The United States has opposed such a cease-fire, saying it’s trying to pursue a long-term solution to the 2-week-old conflict.
The crisis began July 12 after Hezbollah militants captured two Israeli soldiers during a cross-border raid into Israel. Since then, Israeli artillery and warplanes have been pounding Lebanon in their mission to destroy suspected Hezbollah hideouts, and Hezbollah has kept up a volley of rockets into Israel.

When the U.S. tries to pursue a long-term solution they must mean bomb the hell out if it all until it’s dead.
But Rep. Tom Lantos, D-California, the ranking member of the House International Relations Committee, said recent statements by Iraqi leaders are “beneath contempt.”
Lantos said Iraq’s ambassador “came to my office to privately express his apology and regret for these remarks.”
“It is unacceptable that high-ranking officials of the new Iraqi government, whom we have supported with untold precious American blood — some 2,600 by now — hundreds of billions of dollars, should engage in the most vicious, unacceptable, atrocious statements against the state of Israel, our friend and ally, and the Jewish people,” the lawmaker said at a Capitol Hill news conference Tuesday.
“Tomorrow will be an opportunity for the prime minister to express his regret. The whole world will be watching.”

Now rarely do I make much political opinion. But isn’t this like going to your ex-girlfriend and asking for all that money you spent on dates, back? We’re all going to die. The U.S. has truly put the whole world to shit.
“Am I surprised that an Arab has voiced words of concern about Israel and has supported Hezbollah and Hamas?” asked Rep. Christopher Shays, R-Connecticut. “No, I’m not surprised. He’s trying to build coalitions in his own country. I am outraged. But you know, welcome to democracy.”

As Abraham Lincoln said, if bad laws exist they should “be repealed as soon as possible, still, while they continue in force, for the sake of example they should be religiously observed.” President Lincoln devoutly believed that rule of law assured that ours would continue to be a government of the people, by the people and for the people.
And that should be the first demand of every American today.
